SERVICE · DRONE SURVEY

Drone survey:
Five hectares. One flight.

Drone-based aerial survey for very large outdoor yards and hard-to-reach pile geometries. High-resolution photogrammetry, RTK-georeferenced — typically a 30-minute flight for a 5-hectare yard, delivered as orthophoto, DTM, DSM, 3D mesh and per-pile volumes.

SERVICE  ·  Drone surveying & volumetric survey · RTK photogrammetry

From above. Faster than ground.

For yards larger than 1 hectare, ground-based scanning becomes slow and blind-spot-prone. Our drone-survey service uses a heavy-lift drone with an RTK-georeferenced 1-inch-sensor camera capturing the yard photogrammetrically. Processing delivers volume calculation and mass estimation per pile — a complete volumetric stockpile survey from the air.

A single 30-minute drone survey flight covers 5 hectares at 2 cm ground sample distance. You receive orthophoto, DTM (terrain), DSM (surface), 3D mesh, contour plan and per-pile volumes — within three business days. We offer drone surveying across the entire DACH region — several bases and local pilots keep travel costs and response times low. For sites that need inventory figures for same-day decisions rather than for the accounts, continuous stockpile monitoring with stationary LiDAR is usually the better fit.

„Half a day of flying replaces three days of tripod scanning. And finds piles we couldn't even reach on foot."

Used at Aurubis copper smelter, port-side aggregate yards and quarry mountain faces.

Service capabilities

Three properties that make aerial worthwhile.

5 ha per flight

Heavy-lift drone covers 5 hectares in a single 30-minute flight. No ground access needed.

RTK-georeferenced

RTK GNSS + ground-control points = 2 cm absolute precision. Orthophoto + DTM in same coordinate system.

RTK + ground control points

RTK GNSS plus ground control points georeference every flight to 2 cm absolute — survey grade, not an estimate.

How it works

One flight. Five outputs.

Day 1: site visit, GCP placement, drone flight (~30 min). Day 2-3: registration, georeferencing, orthophoto + DTM/DSM generation, per-pile volumes. Delivery in your inbox by end of day 3.

Applications

Big yards — fast inventory.

Aerial survey is the right call when ground access is restricted or yard size exceeds 1 ha.

Open-pit quarries Aggregate yards Port-side stockpiles Power-plant coal yards Steel-mill ore yards Recycling sites Wind-farm site surveys Earthwork progress
Why choose aerial

Where ground stops — drones start.

Aerial survey delivers what ground-based scanning can't: top-down geometry of every pile, regardless of access. Need 24/7 instead of one-off? See LiDAR vs drone for stationary monitoring.

Heavy-lift drone, RTK GNSS

Industrial drone payload, RTK-corrected positioning. 2 cm absolute precision in client coordinate system.

Survey-grade photogrammetry

High-overlap image flights, RTK georeferencing, ground-control checks — dense point cloud, orthophoto and DTM from a single flight.

Three-day deliverables

From flight to inbox in three business days. Orthophoto, DTM, DSM, mesh, per-pile volumes.

EU-licensed pilots

Our pilots hold A1/A3 + STS-01 EU drone licenses. Insurance and permits handled end-to-end.

DACH-wide, pilots on site

Several bases across Germany, Austria and Switzerland — the pilot from your region flies the mission. Short travel, low travel costs, fast scheduling.

Use cases · From stockpile to construction site

What we survey from the air: five use cases, one flight.

Drone surveying is more than aerial photos — every flight delivers defensible numbers for inventory, billing and planning.

Stockpile volume measurement & quantity surveys

Per-pile volumes at ±2 % — mass via bulk density, audit-grade for inventory and billing. Includes landfill cubage and recycling stock.

Pit & quarry scans

The complete extraction site as a terrain model: overburden cubage, quarry faces, terrain profiles and as-planned vs. as-built comparison — without setting foot on a wall.

Route & corridor surveys

Roads, conveyor routes, utility corridors and embankments as longitudinal and cross profiles — the basis for earthworks tenders and mass calculations.

Building heights & building surveys

Building heights, roof and facade areas determined photogrammetrically — for as-built documentation, planning and clearance evidence.

Elevation mapping for construction sites

Digital terrain model (DTM) and surface model (DSM) per construction stage: progress documentation, earth-mass balance and as-planned vs. as-built weekly.

FAQ

Drone surveying — answered.

Price, accuracy, process — the questions that come before commissioning a drone survey.

Drone Survey

How much does a drone survey for stockpile measurement cost? +
A drone survey including processing costs about €1,200–2,500 depending on the depth of the deliverables, plus travel. The difference lies in the processing scope: pure volume calculation per pile at the lower end — the full package of orthophoto, digital terrain model (DTM), 3D mesh and per-zone stockpile survey at the upper end. Because we offer drone surveying across the entire DACH region with several bases and local pilots, travel costs usually stay small. You receive a binding fixed-price quote up front, typically within two working days. Details: drone surveying & aerial survey; if you need inventory figures for same-day decisions rather than for the accounts, stationary LiDAR is the right tool — not because each measurement is cheaper, but because it closes the gap between surveys.
How accurate is a drone survey of stockpiles? +
±2 % volume accuracy at 2 cm ground sample distance (GSD). RTK-GNSS plus ground control points georeference every flight to 2 cm absolute accuracy in your coordinate system; high-overlap photogrammetry delivers a dense point cloud, orthophoto and digital terrain model. That puts drone surveying on par with classic ground surveying — but a 30-minute flight covers 5 hectares, including piles you cannot even reach on foot. On the market, the typical volume accuracy of a drone survey is 1–3 % with a surveyed ground-control network and 3–5 % without, depending on image overlap; our RTK flights reach ±2 % at 2 cm GSD. For comparison: stationary LiDAR measures at ±1 % — continuously instead of on a survey date. When each method pays off: LiDAR vs drone; the flight service itself: drone surveying.
What can a drone survey be used for? +
A drone survey with RTK photogrammetry covers five use cases — from a single flight: stockpile volume measurement and quantity surveys (per-pile volume at ±2 %, mass via bulk density), pit and quarry scans (overburden cubage, terrain profiles, as-planned vs. as-built), route and corridor surveys (longitudinal and cross profiles for earthworks and conveyor routes), building heights and building surveys (heights, roof and facade areas) and elevation mapping for construction sites (DTM/DSM per construction stage, progress documentation, earth-mass balance). Every survey delivers orthophoto, terrain model, point cloud and the requested analyses — typically €1,200–2,500 incl. processing. Details: drone surveying.
