3D-LiDAR above the loading bay measures the volume in the truck bed while it is being filled — so the truck is not overloaded. Under the silo or loading spout, or by wheel loader beneath a mast.
OWL EYE® Filling Terminal is an industrial 3D-LiDAR system that measures the load volume in a truck live while it is being filled — under a silo or loading spout, or by wheel loader beneath a mast — so that the truck is not overloaded or overfilled and loading stops at the target volume. The weighbridge stays: it weighs and bills the load — the Filling Terminal makes sure the truck arrives there correctly loaded.
The sensor sits on a mast or gantry above the loading bay and looks straight into the open truck bed. It first captures the empty bed, then follows the rising fill surface while material runs from the spout or drops from the bucket. The load volume is the filled surface minus the empty bed — recalculated continuously during loading. The load in tonnes is the volume multiplied by the bulk density calibrated for the material — at constant bulk density accurate to ±0.5 t.
The operator sees the live volume in m³, the target line for the order, the load distribution front/rear and left/right, and an alert as soon as material threatens to spill over the side walls. The truck is identified by number plate (ANPR) or RFID, and every loading is booked per truck, order and customer into your ERP.
It measures open-top trucks: tippers, open bulk trailers, walking-floor trailers and dump trucks. Closed pneumatic silo tankers cannot be seen into and are not measured.
Need the finished load measured in a drive-through pass? That is the job of OWL EYE® Truck Terminal. How LiDAR volume measurement and weighing differ: LiDAR and weighbridge compared. Protecting the silo itself against overfilling: silo overfill protection.
OWL EYE® is in production at K+S, Aurubis, Nordzucker, Agrana, thyssenkrupp, Lanxess, Tarmac, Secil and other industrial sites.
Volume in m³ in the truck bed, updated continuously while the truck is being loaded.
A signal to the operator or the loading control as soon as the target volume for the order is reached — before the truck is overloaded.
Front/rear balance, off-centre loading and an overspill alert before material goes over the side.
The truck is identified and the empty bed is captured. While the spout runs or the wheel loader tips, the LiDAR follows the fill surface and shows the volume live. At the target volume loading stops — and the result is booked to the truck and order.
Open-top trucks loaded from silos, bunkers or by wheel loader at dispatch points.
Designed for dusty, outdoor loading points in 24/7 operation.
OWL EYE® Filling Terminal shows the load while it is still being built, so the loading point can stop in time, before the truck is overloaded.
Loading ends at the target volume, before the truck is overloaded. No re-tipping, no second loading run, no truck sent back from the weighbridge for being overloaded.
Every truck leaves with the volume the order calls for. Weighing and billing stay on your loading scale or weighbridge.
The full surface of the load is visible, so material piling up on one side or above the side walls is flagged while there is still time to react.
Same software as OWL EYE® Truck Terminal and Stockpile — one dashboard, REST API, OPC UA and SAP integration.
The web dashboard logs every loading with volume, target, load distribution, truck and timestamp.
DASHBOARD PREVIEW · LIVE LOADING
From the site survey at your loading point to live loading control — the Filling Terminal ships as a complete package. Outside Europe, installation and service run through certified local partners in the USA, Canada and Australia + Pacific — see all international partners.
Spout or wheel-loader geometry, sensor position and dust conditions on site. The installation geometry is confirmed here.
Mast or gantry mounting, sensor commissioning, network, connection to the loading control and the ERP.
Onboarding for loading operators and dispatchers, documented interfaces, remote support.
The sensor mast or gantry is simple steelwork. Build it with your own local steel contractor to our drawings — or we organise the complete installation including the structure. Both are standard paths.
Every loading is automatically assigned to the vehicle: an ANPR camera reads the number plate, or an RFID reader picks up the vehicle tag. The volume books against the right truck, order and customer in your ERP — no terminal, no paperwork.
The price depends on the number of loading bays, the mast or gantry and the depth of integration. Send us a description of your loading point and you get a firm offer after the site survey.
